Changing traditions is the way to achieve a smaller eco footprint

Something to contemplate and think about in 2018.

Traditions, hard to touch, hard to change and impossible to discuss. People feel easily attacked when the subject comes on. Whether it is about black Peet, Christmas or New Years eve……. can’t touch this.

One good reason to renew, re-invent certain traditional events is our climate, our future, our planet…Our traditional behavior equals the horn of plenty. Big spending, buying all kinds of kitsch with Christmas, Eating like there’s no tomorrow, producing waste for a whole year….  Trowing firecrackers or small bombs for pleasure on new years eve, producing tons of CO2 in one night. need we say more…..Wanna change, change your tradition.

Traditions are  Flauwe Kult, it is for real….. By the way check our design Flauwe Kult @ www.artwearness.com  and  Warehouse Blauwdruck, Zwolle

sorry we’re so critical, thats our tradition ( : …. SEE YOU IN 2018

What about artful shopping with style?

Black Friday and Cyber Monday, That is not our cup of tea. Excuse us if we make a critical note here. Why on earth do we need more and more stuff and preferably cheap as Trump. Why do we let our selves manipulate so easily by all those mega companies that makes us believe we will have never enough even while we are already buried and choking in stuff. The mayhem and frenzy at the stores looks like we are desperately seeking for the last drop of water, because we polluted the rest. Why are we so easy triggered to look out for nr. one and forget what kind of footprint our behavior leaves for the next generations? Speaking on behalf of me, ‘ I would never settle with the label consumer’ because that is not what I am and it certainly not defines me. It is something you do. It might as well be something you do with consciousness and intelligence. That brings me to the reason to sell our shirts with  Awareness. And why we choose certain partners (in crime) to work with.

For instance: Warehouse Blauwdruck: is a warehouse with a different attitude  They sell local produced art & artful items. They work with artist and creative and cradle to cradle entrepreneurs. Besides Blauwdruck warehouse owner Jorien exploits an art gallery. Warehouse Blauwdruck  is located in a former Chinees restaurant and the remains of that are still visible. The interieur is basic, robust, sturdy, raw  and slightly industrial never the less the atmosphere is warm and cosy. Deliroos is a lunchroom residing in the warehouse. So while feasting your eyes and contemplating witch original gift you are about to buy, one can enjoy nice comfort food.

And of course you will find our shirts present too. No shirts for lame ducks, but spicy prints on fair cottons. Together with Blauwdruck we will have our own Holliday action soon on Bleu Monday, Ruby Tuesday, Moody Wednesday, Thirsty Thursday, Thank God It’s Friday and Black Sabbath. keep your eyes open …..and keep track of us. Consume with conscious!

Power Flowers arise….

We like to pay attention to our special this month discount design:

Power Flower’

Womans rights, it seems so naturally and absolutely evident. Do we, the free and independent woman, take it for granted? To be honest, taking myself as example, sometimes I do. It feels absolutely normal if I get equal treatment, if I do not have to worry about an (innocent) pad on the buttocks. Or serious powerplay between the sexes (or I’am not aware of it) . I do not encounter these complicated and belittling situations. Why? I am not sure but I grew up with the state of mind that woman suppose to be equal to men. I also grew up with the reality check that even though my mother and grandmothers fought for there right to be equal, in fact their world was not ready yet.

But my world is. And I consider myself lucky. I must say, independency and self esteem starts with your self and it need to be guarded and protected at al means.

I am a privileged woman, I see that. So my sisterhood oblige me to stand up for sisters in lesser situations. And I  speak, when ever I can, On behalf of them and their future too.

Skunk Anansi as a cool role model… a realPower Flower

The Royal We, Artwearness,  share a workspace with Vrouwen platform caree, Zwolle. They are a serious workforce to empower woman. Young woman, vulnerable woman and isolated woman. Dutch woman who suffered aggression and oppression, Woman without perspective….And this is our very emancipated Holland! Leave alone all places in the world were woman has no rights and are demolished even by there own spouses.

Our workspace is a real suffragette community, all women!! And they make me aware of the need of woman issue awareness every day!

Of all people, woman, are probably still the largest group of discriminated, misused, abused, mutilated and attacked ones.

I like to introduce the following hash-tack to all of our sisters: #Powerflower.

few musical inspirations for you:

Hang On to Yourself

We presented our new design Non Conformist past week to you. In our blog we let you take a glance of our designers motives. A design can be just pleasing or esthetic, commercial and popular. Created for instant succes….

Maybe money making is less interesting than using all your creative powers and really make an effort to add something fresh to this world. That could be a thought, an idea, an opinion driven by other motives than opportunism and money. Plain and honest statements, they seem rare these days.

One of my ultimate Heroe of non conformism was The Wide Eyed Boy From Free Cloud, David Bowie. When I was a insecure teenager he thaught me,  that being different was cool, ultra cool. He made artistic statements and was inimitable. Still, today, almost a year after he died, Ziggy’s Stardust was never more shining in his absents. Still he left a void. The world needs Little Wonders like he was.

We al seek for Saviour Machines, but as the lyrics of the song says, If you please them to much it will control and destroy you……It needs a counter word, an opposing word to sharpen his mind. It needs a Sense Of Doubt.

Live is Quicksand as it is, Fashions comes and Fame goes. Living Under Pressure in order to find this Velvet Goldmine.

Day in Day out, we trie so hard to be a part of something bigger but in fact we our selves could be larger than the sum of our coins and the size of our ego. We could be Heroes, just for one day. Doing it the Right way….and Don’t Look Back In Anger

Dear David, we salute you and thank you for all the inspiration!

Non Conformist (new)

A new design @ artwearness by the title ‘Non Conformist’.

Globalization brings lots of opportunities and brings people and cultures together. Although it often results in equalizing and smoothing all the rough edges of basically everything. Regardless shape, colour, or scent, it ends up a mashed potato with insignificant color, shape and scent. I like to call it the McDonnalysation or Faceboocation of the world. You can travel to the most extreme outskirts of the world and meet different cultures and at the same time drink coke and talk about the same subjects and dance @ the same tunes. As I said theres something really democratic en equal about it, but is is also extremely boring when everyone and everything is alike. I Am born in the seven-tees and grew up in the eighties. To become distinctive and unique was my greatest search. I choke at the idea that I should act conform a (commercial) defined pear group. Maybe, it was just me. maybe I could not fit in anyway. But now I’ am so glad that I became my own. With my own ideals, dreams and oddness. I embrace it. And so should everyone embrace the oddity in her or him self and life it out! Don’t be a number or a sheep. Be unexpected.

New design Not Square 03

Hereby we present our new design “Not Square 03′ to you.

A square is a mathematical figure or a big open space in a village or city were people and traffic comes together. Our square refers to the squareness of people. Being square is a phrase that is rooted in jazz music. It describes a person *who failed to appreciate the medium, or, more broadly, someone who was out of date or out of touch, hence the saying “be there or be square” (*source Wikipedia). The saying became in fashion  and adapted by the hipsters (1940), the beatbiks (1950), the hippies (1960) and the yippies (1970). These pop cultures were progressive and in favor of a more open mindset to the unknown. In the America’s of the 40ties, 50ties, 60ties and 70ties this mindset is received with mixed emotions. Especially the conservatives thought this would be the end of civilicitaion as they knew it, the others embraced it.

Being Square, someone who clings to repressive, traditional, stereotypical, one-sided, or “in the box” ways of thinking, is not something of the past, it is still representing a large group of people. With all respect, squareness can be caused by fear of the future, fear of aliens, fear of poverty, fear of loss, fear of abandoning the common and safe rituals and fear of change. In fact lot of square people can not be blamed. Most of them ar brought up this way and was never thought to think otherwise. But the side effect of squareness can be intolerance, exclusion, supremacy, ruggedness and maybe even violence or war. Hippies, they may have not be perfect and probably naif, but they did spread the word of love. The beatniks did introduce (besides from jazz) black music and culture into mainstream white music. Artwearness is not called artwearness to not think about these issues of life, so we made this statement because we believe, regardless what ever reason you might have for squareness, that being a bit more round round the edges makes the world go and stay round and a much better place to live on.

Discounted Machine Men

Design: Machine Men Discounted till oktober 05 2017. from 29,95 to 25,00.

Famous phrase from the Charley Chaplin Movie ‘ The Great Dictator’:

“Don’t give yourself to machine men with machine minds” .

It’s all over the news. Kim Jong-un and Donald J. Trump constantly bragging about their weapons of mass destruction. Obsessed with war. Will there be a nuclear-war between North Korea and the US?
Only time will tell I guess. Both have no means of standing down and showing a bit of humanity.

Experts tell us that Kim Jong-un has no means of starting a war and using his acclaimed weapons. He uses them only to scare the United States. He calls them his “gifts” for the States.
We can only hope that Kim Jong-un nor Donald J. Trump are clever enough not to push the buttons and launch their weaponry.

Nuclear warfare, death, destruction. Why? Because they want to show who has more power. Who can do most damage to the other, over the heads of innocent civilians. But what do they hope to achieve with a nuclear war? War is and never will be the answer to anything.

Our design originates from the famous Charlie Chaplin and The Final Speech from the “Great Dictator’.

Even though this was ment as a political satire against Adolf Hitler in 1940, it is still relevant to the present.

Even though Kim Jong-un, the 4-star general with no solid military background whatsoever, sounds like an evil and dangerous dictator, there are some claimed facts about him that make him look just silly.

Wear our design and support Charlie’s message. Don’t subside to those so called “superpowers” with their machine minds. We’re humans with the power to create peace. Lets put it to use.
