A new design inspired on Inglourious Basterds by Tarantino and the classical Bastard Sugar. What’s in a name.

There a plenty basterds in the world, they are not seldom. In honour of Quentin Tarantino, if they are Basterds they are probably inglorious”. We can feel superior with this idea in mind. In this case it is all mixed up. Sugar that’s called ‘bastard’ is in fact quiet nice and sweet.

What about artful shopping with style?

Black Friday and Cyber Monday, That is not our cup of tea. Excuse us if we make a critical note here. Why on earth do we need more and more stuff and preferably cheap as Trump. Why do we let our selves manipulate so easily by all those mega companies that makes us believe we will have never enough even while we are already buried and choking in stuff. The mayhem and frenzy at the stores looks like we are desperately seeking for the last drop of water, because we polluted the rest. Why are we so easy triggered to look out for nr. one and forget what kind of footprint our behavior leaves for the next generations? Speaking on behalf of me, ‘ I would never settle with the label consumer’ because that is not what I am and it certainly not defines me. It is something you do. It might as well be something you do with consciousness and intelligence. That brings me to the reason to sell our shirts with  Awareness. And why we choose certain partners (in crime) to work with.

For instance: Warehouse Blauwdruck: is a warehouse with a different attitude  They sell local produced art & artful items. They work with artist and creative and cradle to cradle entrepreneurs. Besides Blauwdruck warehouse owner Jorien exploits an art gallery. Warehouse Blauwdruck  is located in a former Chinees restaurant and the remains of that are still visible. The interieur is basic, robust, sturdy, raw  and slightly industrial never the less the atmosphere is warm and cosy. Deliroos is a lunchroom residing in the warehouse. So while feasting your eyes and contemplating witch original gift you are about to buy, one can enjoy nice comfort food.

And of course you will find our shirts present too. No shirts for lame ducks, but spicy prints on fair cottons. Together with Blauwdruck we will have our own Holliday action soon on Bleu Monday, Ruby Tuesday, Moody Wednesday, Thirsty Thursday, Thank God It’s Friday and Black Sabbath. keep your eyes open …..and keep track of us. New design Not Square 03

Hereby we present our new design “Not Square 03′ to you.

A square is a mathematical figure or a big open space in a village or city were people and traffic comes together. Our square refers to the squareness of people. Being square is a phrase that is rooted in jazz music. It describes a person *who failed to appreciate the medium, or, more broadly, someone who was out of date or out of touch, hence the saying “be there or be square” (*source Wikipedia). The saying became in fashion  and adapted by the hipsters (1940), the beatbiks (1950), the hippies (1960) and the yippies (1970). These pop cultures were progressive and in favor of a more open mindset to the unknown. In the America’s of the 40ties, 50ties, 60ties and 70ties this mindset is received with mixed emotions. Especially the conservatives thought this would be the end of civilicitaion as they knew it, the others embraced it.

Being Square, someone who clings to repressive, traditional, stereotypical, one-sided, or “in the box” ways of thinking, is not something of the past, it is still representing a large group of people. With all respect, squareness can be caused by fear of the future, fear of aliens, fear of poverty, fear of loss, fear of abandoning the common and safe rituals and fear of change. In fact lot of square people can not be blamed. Most of them ar brought up this way and was never thought to think otherwise. But the side effect of squareness can be intolerance, exclusion, supremacy, ruggedness and maybe even violence or war. Hippies, they may have not be perfect and probably naif, but they did spread the word of love. The beatniks did introduce (besides from jazz) black music and culture into mainstream white music. Artwearness is not called artwearness to not think about these issues of life, so we made this statement because we believe, regardless what ever reason you might have for squareness, that being a bit more round round the edges makes the world go and stay round and a much better place to live on.

Did you ever notice that lots of fashionitas, fashionobro’s and fashionadas are wearing prints of Che Guevara? Unfortunately lots of people are totally unaware of what they wear. Che became just a commercial cool picture with a hint of a rebellion mind-set, to rub off on the one that carries the image. So my statement here is; at least know what or whom you wear, if you wear a portrait or a famous quote or even a brandname.

But we would not be us if not to play with this ultimate iconic and squeezed to the max image. But we did give the icon a new perspective. Oh God, Why Am I So Fly? This could be an outcall for recognition if you did not knew any better. We are totally aware of the lucidity of flyness, hipness, coolness and trendiness. Truly, it is all in the eye of the beholder. If you want to become a true member of the fly community it might help to be totally not dedicated to what ever fashion dictates, but be your own and dictate fashion, That, or become a regular fly and buzz.

 

For our promotion we always use inspirational elements that are rooted in the film, art, design and popular industries; in short > culture. The upside of this is that if you keep track of our Cultcorner you wil be automatically fed with all kinds of culture (cult). In this case: The green Butchers by Anders Thomas, the director of many fantastic and humoristic movies. A side effect of that is that he like to work with the same actors.  Mads Mikkelsen and Thomas Jensen are frequent flyers with Anders Thomas! Both wonderful and allround actors. Discounts design Got Sole

Discount design Got Sole  (till wednesday 07) is extracted from a painting by Marit Otto (mao) named NAP 1999. NAP was al about increasing and rising water levels and as history proves it is still a current topic.

Got Sole is all about having sole, or being a sole individual litterally but actually having ‘Soul’. Soul stands for everything good in life in my perspective. Starting up with Nina Simone, wondering by with Marvin Gaye (and never let go), dreaming on with Maxwell, falling a sleep with Billy Holiday and rise with Ella Fitzgerald. If a person got Soul means she or he got life!
